About Us
The Craft Behind FayeCreations
There is always a quiet moment before a bag leaves our hands.
I hold it up to the light, look over every detail, and let myself remember the hands behind it — mine, or the skilled artisans I have worked alongside for decades.
It is not just a final check, but a small moment of respect for the craft, the time, and the care behind each piece.
That is what FayeCreations is built on.
This is not fast fashion. This is personal.
Choosing the Leather: Where It All Begins
Every piece we design, make, or select for FayeCreations starts with the same question:
Is this leather good enough?
We use carefully selected cowhide across our collection. Depending on the design, structure, and finish of each style, some pieces are made with top-layer cowhide, while others may use high-quality second-layer cowhide that better suits the shape and craftsmanship of the bag.
The selection process is hands-on and deliberate. Hides are assessed for consistency of grain, suppleness, and natural markings. Some markings — small scars or variations in tone — are kept intentionally. They are proof of a life lived, and they make each bag feel uniquely its own.
These natural characteristics are part of genuine leather and should not be considered flaws.
“The leather tells you what it wants to become. You just have to listen.”
The Art of Handweaving: Slowly Made, Beautifully Finished
The handwoven technique at the heart of many of our designs is one of the most labour-intensive processes in leathercraft.
Each strip of leather is cut to a precise width, conditioned, and then woven by hand — over, under, over, under — in a rhythm that takes years to master.
There are no shortcuts here. A single woven tote can take several days to complete from cutting to finishing. The tension of each weave is adjusted by feel, not by machine.
The result is a structure that feels flexible yet supportive, natural in movement, and comfortable to carry throughout the day.
This is leather craftsmanship at its most thoughtful: patient, skilled, and deeply human.
Two Studios, One Standard
FayeCreations operates across two studios — one in Sydney, Australia, and one in China — and both follow the same approach to craftsmanship and quality review.
Our Sydney studio is where much of the design work, finishing, and quality review happens. It is where new techniques are tested, where customer feedback shapes the next collection, and where I spend time working with leather myself, keeping my hands in the craft after more than 20 years.
Our China studio draws on a deep tradition of artisan leatherwork, with makers who have spent their careers perfecting techniques that are increasingly rare.
Every piece we make or select is reviewed with the same care before it becomes part of FayeCreations.
Not a conveyor belt. Not an algorithm.
The Nature of Handmade Woven Leather
For our handmade woven bags, each piece is shaped on a wooden mould, which means slight size variations are completely normal.
During the weaving process, the tension between each leather strip may vary slightly by hand, which can result in a 1–2 cm difference when the bag is brand new.
As the bag is used, the leather naturally softens, relaxes, and settles into its shape. This is part of the normal ageing process of genuine leather and handmade woven construction.
Minor variations in shape and measurements are part of the character of handmade woven leather.
We know this may feel different from a typical retail purchase. To us, that individuality is part of the beauty of handmade leather craftsmanship.
When you carry a FayeCreations bag, you are carrying something chosen with care for its texture, character, and craftsmanship — not something selected by trend alone.
Behind every piece is a person: their judgement, their skill, and their time.
That is what you are investing in.
That is the kind of craftsmanship that ages with character.
The Philosophy: This Is Not Fast Fashion
The fashion industry moves fast. Trends cycle in weeks. Products are designed to be replaced.
FayeCreations was built on a simple belief: that the things we carry every day should feel thoughtful, beautifully made, and connected to a story worth telling.
As a second-generation Chinese-Australian maker, I grew up watching craft treated as something precious — something passed down, not discarded.
That is the spirit behind every bag we make.
It is not about having the newest thing.
It is about having your thing.
